The DeGroot Ozark Beauty Strawberry Starter Plant is a great addition to hanging baskets and is a great way to start your strawberry patch.
Features of DeGroot Ozark Beauty Strawberry Starter Plant
The Ozark Beauty strawberry is an everbearing strawberry variety. It produces large, semi-firm fruit that is perfect for freezing or making preserves. The Ozark Beauty will produce these delicious, bright red berries between early summer and the first frost.
This plant is dormant, so it may lack foliage until it is planted. You can add these dormant roots to a hanging basket if you would prefer to grow them that way instead of in a patch.
Planting Instructions for DeGroot Ozark Beauty Strawberry Starter Plant
The Ozark Beauty strawberry should be planted in the spring as soon as the ground is workable. Soak the plants in water first and then choose a spot of ground in full sun. Plant with the crown of the plant at soil level. You should then cover the plants with 6” of mulch to protect the roots. The flowers and runners should be removed during the first season so that the strawberries can establish a root system.
The early planting may not seem necessary but planting these strawberry starts early will prevent transplant shock and will allow your Ozark Beauty strawberries plenty of time to develop roots. You should protect the plants from frost to keep them growing and consider replanting your strawberry beds every two years.
