The Merck Safe-Guard 10% Equine Dewormer Paste at C-A-L Ranch Stores is an internal parasiticide and dewormer for horses containing 10% fenbendazole (active anthelmintic) that comes in a 25 g tube. This easy-to-administer paste is very effective in the treatment of typical parasites in adult horses.
This deworming paste is indicated for the control of the following parasites:
- Large strongyles (Strongylus edentatus, S. equinus, S. vulgaris)
- Encysted early third stage (hypobiotic)
- Late third stage and fourth stage cyathostome larvae
- Small strongyles (including migrating larvae)
- Pinworms (Oxyuris equi)
- Ascarids (Parascaris equorum or roundworms)
- Arteritis caused by fourth stage larvae of Strongylus vulgaris
The dosage for Merck Safe-Guard 10% Equine Dewormer Paste is 2.3 mg/lb (5 mg/kg). One 25 g tube of the paste will treat an 1100 lb horse or, if treating a foal or otherwise small horse, one 25 g tube will deworm a 550 lb horse. Be sure to administer one 25 g syringe for every 550 lbs of body weight per day.
The Merck Safe-Guard 10% Equine Dewormer Paste is administered orally. It is artificially flavored with an apple-cinnamon liquid to help your horses accept the treatment.
The Merck Safe-Guard 10% Equine Dewormer Paste is safe for horses of varying sizes, ages, and breeds. It can be used to treat foals and pregnant mares, older horses, thin and underweight horses, and miniature horses; it is also safe for the environment and for use around other farm animals and pets.
Because your horse could be continually exposed to parasites, you may need to regularly deworm your horse every six to eight weeks. There are no known contraindications for Merck Safe-Guard 10% Equine Dewormer Paste.
